Hugh Knox states that he has
devoted his life to literature. He was influenced by the early
20th century surrealists, as well as Isidore Ducasse and William
Burroughs. He has always been fascinated by persons outside the
accepted norms of society and spent his life travelling and
keeping company with "the outcasts, the mad, the furious." He
has lived
in Paris, Prague, Barcelona, Mexico, San Francisco, Berkeley,
and New York. He was imprisoned in France, and left Prague two
hours before the Russian tanks rolled across the border. He
has been shot and stabbed. "You cannot have real adventures",
Knox says, "without acquiring a
few wounds."
"I wanted to read a book that might have been written by Jonathan
Swift on LSD, and that being impossible, I spent thirty years
writing it myself."
